A New Antenna Rotor, The HDTV2 TM AccuMaxTM
To Compliment Winegard¡¯s Digital/HDTV Antenna Line
Burlington, Iowa. April 14, 2005. Winegard Company, an innovator and pioneer in product design, performance and assembly, announced today a new marketing initiative to offer totally integrated solutions to their different antenna customers, while continuing to provide products in line with the quality standards of Winegard to meet those consumer demands. In order to offer this totally integrated solution with quality electronic components such as pre-amps and distribution amps to support digital reception needs and deliver the full HDTV package, Winegard looked for and found this targeted support with an Asian manufacturer of quality support products.
Bob Howell, Director of Distribution Systems/Off-Air Antenna Division said ¡°We accomplished this by entering into a Strategic Alliance with Pro Brand International to work together to develop and bring new, innovative, quality products to market. Pro Brand International is headquartered in Marietta, Georgia. While Pro Brand has demonstrated them to be a quality manufacturer of consumer products since 1983 with an excellent reputation in the industry, it does not have the established distribution and customer support arm that Winegard has developed over the past 51 years.? This Strategic Alliance serves both companies well and provides the conduit to continue to lead the industry in innovative, creative technologies and exciting new products to the consumer. For example, in support of our Digital/HDTV Off-Air line of antennas, we immediately identified the need to point a Digital/HDTV antenna accurately. In Winegard¡¯s drive to be the leader in HDTV antenna total technology solutions, we worked closely with Pro Brand to bring a new rotor concept and design for digital TV reception to market, Winegard¡¯s AccuMax.¡±
The AccuMax R-1000 Off-Air Antenna Rotor was specifically designed for digital TV configuration. While a quality rotor is a good idea for analog signal reception, it is absolutely critical for Digital/HDTV reception. Aiming antennas to pick up digital signals is all about absolute accuracy. Howell continued ¡°New digital antennas have to be able to zero in on the specific multipath signal you want to resonate these DTV signals and reject all other multipath signals reaching the antenna at the same time. The accuracy of a rotor in being able to always return exactly to the same multipath signal selected and programmed into the head-end set-top box is critical. The only rotor to accomplish this will be the Winegard AccuMax.¡±
In making this announcement, Howell said ¡°This is just the next step in long term Winegard marketing initiatives started this year which will include additional Strategic Alliances, such as the one begun between Winegard and Terk Technologies/Audiovox. Winegard first became the antenna manufacturer and supplier to Terk for three high-performance Digital/HDTV Winegard antennas, the TV32, TV36 and TV38 allowing TERK to expand its antenna line to a total of 6 Digital/HDTV antennas in support of Terk¡¯s HDTV Initiative.¡±
Winegard has added the SquareShooter, branded the HDTVs by TERK and the SharpShooter, branded by TERK as the HDTVlp, to this list.
Winegard and Pro Brand also worked together to bring to market the first quarter of 2004, an Off-Air/Terrestrial HDTV Set-Top Converter Box ¨C The HDTV2 DigiMaxTM HD-RC10 available through Winegard¡¯s general line distribution base and the Recreational RV OEMs and after market dealers. It includes, on board, an AC-3 decoder chip allowing the customer to receive true 5.1 Dolby Digital audio.
Howell continued ¡°With the dawn of HDTV, Winegard faced two challenges. The first was to meet the demand for HDTV antennas. We have accomplished this first challenge by designing, testing and building two antenna lines specifically for the Digital/HDTV market. It started? with Winegard¡¯s Platinum HD Series Antenna Line and was followed by our newest HDTV2 TM antenna product line, which was kicked off by the introduction of the outdoor High-Band VHF/UHF Digital/Analog/HDTV Antenna System, the SquareShooterTM SS-1000, selected as an Honoree in the 2004 CES Design and Engineering Showcase in the accessories category¡±.
Antenna are now a Necessity, not an Accessory. Getting the best Off-Air picture starts with the choice of the best antenna for today¡¯s reception challenges. The SquareShooter was followed by the introduction at CES 2005 of the indoor SharpShooterTM ?SS-3000, the best All-Band DTV/HDTV Digital/Analog Directional/Bi-Directional Antenna on the market for? metropolitan/suburban consumers.
Bob Howell continued, ¡°The single largest contributing factor to successful digital antenna installation and DTV/HDTV reception today is the ability of these metropolitan/suburban consumers to buy an antenna that deals with multipath or reflected signal and get it aimed accurately. This is a major issue and significant challenge for digital antenna manufacturers and installers. Our marketing objective is to continue to offer total solutions to our different antenna customers and to continue to provide products in line with the quality standards of Winegard to meet our consumer demand. Winegard and Pro Brand plan multiple projects moving forward targeted at delivering solutions and opportunity for the industry and the consumer. Delivery will start from Pro Brand to Winegard of the AccuMax in second first quarter of 2005¡±.

Winegard Company To Introduce THE AccuMaxTM At CES,
THE MOST ACCURATE, HIGHEST QUALITY, EASIEST TO INSTALL
ANTENNA ROTOR ON THE MARKET
Absolute Accuracy In An Antenna Rotor
Being Able To Always Return Exactly To The Same Multi-Path Digital Signal
Selected And Programmed Into The Controller For Each Station
Is Critical To Digital Picture Integrity
The Only Antenna Rotor That Can Do This Is Winegard¡¯s AccuMaxTM AMR-100
Burlington, Iowa, January 2, 2004. As customers are finding out as they return their new Digital/HDTV antennas to retailers complaining that they don¡¯t work, aiming these antennas to pick up digital signals is all about absolute accuracy. Bob Howell, Director of Distribution Systems/Off-Air Antenna Division said ¡°These new digital antennas have to be able to zero in on the one specific multi-path signal for the best Digital reception and reject all other multi-path signals reaching the antenna at the same time. The accuracy of an antenna rotor in being able to always return every time exactly to the same multi-path signal selected and programmed into the head-end set-top box by the installer or end customer is critical. The only rotor to accomplish this will be the Winegard AccuMaxTM. AMR-100¡±?
Because the AccuMaxTM antenna rotor uses ¡°Hall Sensor Technology¡± to aim itself remotely, it is much more accurate than any competing rotors on the market today. Howell said ¡°Other rotors use a timing mechanism to locate the signal source. The accuracy of this technology can be affected by many things. If this type of rotor is mounted under a large antenna and the wind is blowing, this can slow down or speed up the turning time and the preset aimed direction for the signal will not be reached. There is no ghosting with digital signals like there is with misaimed analog antennas; you either get a perfect digital picture or nothing. The AccuMaxTM Hall Sensor Technology actually counts motor revolutions as opposed to a timing mechanism. When loaded by wind, ice or snow that may cause the motor to run a little slower or faster, its Hall Sensor which counts motor revolutions ensures accuracy in pointing your antenna to the same multi-path signal the first time, every time making the AccuMaxTM the best choice for Digital/HDTV antenna rotation and aiming.¡±
Almost as important to installers of antenna rotors, the AccuMaxTM utilizes an innovative ¡°one cable¡± wire system to carry not only the Off-Air signal but the rotor control and power as well as, power to an Off-Air Preamplifier, making installation easier and faster for those do it themselves home owners and more profitable for the professional installers. The AccuMaxTM rotor is functional up to 200¡¯ with solid copper RG-6 and at least 100' with copper covered steel RG-6 and the AccuMaxTM ¡°one cable¡± technology allows for simple retrofit installations by eliminating any new cabling requirements.
Although it is only 2/3rd the size of the other rotors, it is very powerful. It delivers high torque, 120 inch.lbs of mechanical torque, which is easily enough power to rotate as large as a 140" inch antenna with high quality braking components that prevent wind milling.
There¡¯s a head-end box (the size of a small cable set top box) to be put on top or under the TV, which comes with a infra-red remote control with 99 programmable memory locations, which can be conveniently given the same number as the channel number. The TV stays tuned on component video, baseband video, or channel 3 or 4, acting as the monitor, just as when using a cable or satellite receiver. The AccuMaxTM Controller will return the antenna exactly to the location for each channel, once it has been programmed into the unit. Punch channel 6 on the remote, the AccuMaxTM? turns to the exact direction programmed by the user for channel 6,? tunes in the station and locks on for a perfect Digital/HDTV picture every time.???
Howell continued ¡°With the dawn of HDTV, Winegard faced two challenges. The first was to meet the demand for HDTV antennas. We have accomplished this first challenge by designing, testing and building two antenna lines specifically for the Digital/HDTV market, Winegard¡¯s Platinum HDR Series Antenna Line and our newest, our HDTV2 TM antenna product line, which will be kicked off by the introduction of our newest High-Band VHF/UHF Analog/Digital/HDTV Antenna System, the SquareShooterTM SS-1000, selected as an honoree in the 2004 CES Design and Engineering Showcase in the accessories category.
The second challenge is to educate everyone, distributors, dealers, installers, retail chain buyers and their sales staff, even HD Television manufacturers and finally the HDTV consumers themselves about HDTV, what it is, what is need to get a HDTV picture and how to set up the products correctly. That, we have just begun to undertake.¡±
In support of both HDTV reception challenges, Winegard¡¯s marketing objective is to offer totally integrated solutions to their different antenna customers, while continuing to provide products in line with the quality standards of Winegard to meet those consumer demands. In order to offer this totally integrated solution with quality electronic components such as pre-amps and distribution amps to support digital reception needs and deliver the full HDTV package, Winegard looked for and found an Asian manufacturer of quality targeted support products.
Howell said ¡°We accomplished this by finding Pro Brand International and entering into a Strategic Alliance working together to bring new innovative products to market. While Pro Brand is a demonstrated manufacturer of quality products with a very good reputation in the industry, it does not have the distribution arm that Winegard has. In support of our Digital/HDTV Off-Air line of antennas, we identified the additional need for the digital/HDTV market place to be able to point a Digital/HDTV antenna accurately. We worked closely with Pro Brand to bring a new rotor concept and design for digital TV reception to market, Winegard¡¯s AccuMaxTM.¡±? Winegard and Pro Brand plan multiple projects moving forward targeted at education and delivering solutions and opportunity for the industry and the consumer. Delivery will start from Pro Brand to Winegard in February, 2004 with the AccuMaxTM rotor.

AccuMax Rotor Backgrounder
Gone are the analog TV days when rabbit ear might get you your local stations. With the advent of digital broadcast signals, antenna aiming accuracy has become a necessity, not an accessory. For viewers living between the over-the-air broadcast towers, not only is an antenna that deals with multipath or reflected signal necessary, but an accurate antenna rotor may also be the answer to getting all the free HDTV broadcasts available.
Winegard Company has been the leader in antenna design and manufacturing in North America for over 50 years. In 2003, it launched a new marketing initiative to offer totally integrated solutions to their different antenna customers, while continuing to provide products in line with the quality standards of Winegard to meet those consumer demands.

Proper Digital Antenna Installation
The single most challenging issue, for proper digital antenna installation, is the ability to negotiate reflected signals. New digital antennas have to be able to zero in on one specific signal for the best Digital reception, aiding in the rejection of all other multi-path signals.? Critical to aiming is absolute repeatable accuracy.
In markets with several broadcast tower locations, an antenna rotor¡¯s ability to accurately return every time to the exact signal programmed into the set-top controller for each broadcast station, is critical to digital picture integrity. ?This ability will, in most cases, solve the HDTV customer¡¯s picture reception problems by solving the aiming problem. The only antenna rotor that always returns exactly to the same signal is Winegard¡¯s AccuMaxTM AMR-100.
Automatically Points An Off-Air Antenna
Exactly At All Network Broadcast Towers
Every Time
Winegard¡¯s new rotor offers the ability to individually program each broadcast towers location into our antenna rotor control box, automatically pointing the Off-Air Antenna exactly in the direction of the desired network broadcast tower every time.
Our controller unit is the size of a small cable set top box and includes an infra-red remote control with 99 programmable memory locations. The control box can be put on top or under the TV and can be conveniently programmed with the same number as the corresponding channel number. The TV acts as the monitor, just as in using a cable or satellite receiver. Punch 006 on the remote, the AccuMaxTM? turns to the exact direction programmed for channel 6, tunes in the station and locks on for a perfect Digital/HDTV picture every time.
Why It¡¯s So Accurate
Because the AccuMaxTM antenna rotor uses ¡°Hall Sensor Technology¡± to aim itself remotely, it is much more accurate than any competing rotors on the market today. ¡°Ghosting is not a digital signal problem as with misaimed analog antennas; you either get a perfect digital picture or nothing. But the AccuMax will solve analog ghosting problems also, if they result from a misaligned antenna.
Other rotors, using a timing mechanism to relocate an antenna to the signal source and can be affected by wind, ice or snow, slowing down or speeding up the turning time, changing where the timed rotation stops.
The AccuMaxTM Hall Sensor Technology doesn¡¯t rely on time. When loaded by wind or ice, causing the motor to run a little slower or faster, its Hall Sensor counts motor revolutions, instead of lapsed time, ensuring accuracy in pointing. This makes the AccuMaxTM Antenna Rotor System the best choice for Digital/HDTV antenna rotation and aiming. 720 degree rotation is possible. There are no end stops, but turning is automatically limited to 2 rotations, to eliminate cable wrapping.
Ease Of Installation
The AccuMaxTM antenna rotor utilizes an innovative ¡°one cable¡± wire system, carrying, not only the Off-Air digital antenna signal, but the rotor control and power to an Off-Air Antenna Preamplifier. This makes installation easy. It allows simple retrofit installations by eliminating any new cabling requirement. Simply bolt the AccuMax to the existing antenna mast, cut or replace a short length of antenna cable coming down from the antenna and attach it to the input on the AccuMax Rotor and attach the remaining antenna cable leading into the home to the output on the AccuMax Rotor.?
Powerful
Although it is 30% smaller than other rotors, it is very powerful, delivering high torque, 120 inch.lbs of mechanical torque, which is easily enough power to rotate as large as a 133" inch antenna with high quality braking components that prevent wind milling.

The second challenge is to educate everyone, distributors, dealers, installers, retail chain buyers and their sales staff, even HD Television manufacturers and finally the HDTV consumers themselves about HDTV, what it is, what is needed to get a HDTV picture and how to set up the products correctly.?? In support of this expansion of HDTV products to fill the market need, we identified the additional requirement for this kind of aiming accuracy in a Digital/HDTV rotor system. The Winegard AccuMax? AMR-100 unique features meet this need and serve to provide the HDTV customer with another tool necessary to fill an existing technical challenge.
In those viewing markets where there are several tower locations for broadcast of Digital signals, an accurate antenna rotor will be an absolute necessity in delivery the full HDTV experience.

Punch channel 6 on the remote, the AccuMax turns to the exact direction programmed by the user for channel 6, tunes in the station and locks on for a perfect Digital/HDTV picture every time.
Howell continued ¡°With the dawn of HDTV, Winegard faced two challenges. The first was to meet the demand for HDTV antennas. Antennas are now a Necessity, not an Accessory. Getting the best Off-Air picture starts with the choice of the best antenna for today¡¯s reception challenges. We have accomplished this first challenge by designing, testing and building two antenna lines specifically for the Digital/HDTV market. The first was Winegard¡¯s Platinum HD? Series Antenna Line and then our HDTV2 TM antenna product line, which was kicked off by the introduction of our newest outdoor High-Band VHF/UHF Analog/Digital/HDTV Antenna System, the SquareShooterTM SS-1000, selected as an honoree in the 2004 CES Design and Engineering Showcase in the accessories category, followed by the introduction of the new SharpShooterTM SS-3000, the best indoor All-Band DTV/HDTV Digital/Analog Directional/Bi-Directional Antenna on the market for metropolitan/suburban consumers¡±.
Delivery will start from Pro Brand to Winegard in the second quarter of 2005 for the AccuMaxTM rotor.

A New Antenna Rotor, The AccuMaxTM
Antennas are now a Necessity, not an Accessory. Getting the best Off-Air picture starts with the choice of the best antenna for today¡¯s reception challenges. The SquareShooter was followed by the introduction at CES 2005 of the indoor SharpShooterTM ??SS-3000, the best All-Band DTV/HDTV Digital/Analog Directional/Bi-Directional Antenna on the market for metropolitan/suburban consumers.
